About Us

The Congregation of the Presentation Sisters was founded in India in the year 1842. Since then, they have been working in Chennai and other parts of India. In 1883 soon after the Bombay Madras Railway line was laid and the Buckingham and Carnatic Mills established, it was found necessary to open a school at Perambur to cater to the education of the children. The Most Rev. Fr. J. Allen, the Archbishop of Madras, as Parish Priest of Lourdes Shrine, Perambur, was the manager of the school, which was then attached to the Church.

In 1911, the management of the school was transferred into the hands of the Presentation Sisters, under Rev Mother Angela Curtin. Among the sisters who have lived in this convent Rev. Sr. Ann. Caffry stands out. She lived in the same convent from 1911 -1972, having taught 3 generations of students.

In the spirit of Jesus and our Foundress, Nano Nagle, the task of our society today is to accompany the students to discover the light within themselves and share it with others; to make them God-centred and Person-centred, to enable them to be responsible citizens in the world of our times and play their unique role in the transformation of society.

We continue to inculcate in our students love for the materially poor while we foster critical thinking and promote Christian values. In short, our education strives to bring about social change, so much needed in today's world.
